The Soot-Free Urban Bus Fleets Project aims to secure commitments in 20 megacities to shift new bus procurements to the cleanest bus engine technology. ICCT Clean Air Program Lead Ray Minjares will give an overview of the work of the ICCT on soot-free urban bus fleets. This presentation will include a discussion of achievements to-date, new findings on lifeycycle greenhouse gas emissions of soot-free buses, finance needs and opportunities to accelerate deployment of soot-free buses, and the recently launched Global Industry Partnership on Soot-Free Clean Bus Fleets. Following a discussion of these activities, the presentation will conclude with recommendations for staff working in these and other cities, and will present opportunities for further collaboration with the ICCT.<\/p>\n
A soot-free engine is any diesel or alternative fuel engine that meets Euro VI or US 2010 emission standards; and any diesel engine with a diesel particulate filter, gas engine, or zero emission electric drive engine. The cities targeted under this project include: Abidjan, Accra, Addis Ababa, Bangkok, Bogot\u00e1, Buenos Aires, Casablanca, Dar es Salaam, Dhaka, Istanbul, Jakarta, Johannesburg, Lagos, Lima, Manila, Mexico City, Nairobi, Santiago, Sao Paulo, and Sydney. The project is sponsored by the Climate and Clean Air Coalition and jointly implemented by the International Council on Clean Transportation and UN Environment, in partnership with C40 Cities and the Centro Mario Molina-Chile.<\/p>\n
