OUR FOCUS<\/span><\/h3>\n

The transportation sector already accounts for approximately 25% of global anthropogenic CO2<\/sub> emissions. Still, global demand for transportation is surging, and with it, inexorably, carbon emissions\u2014not to mention other forms of air pollution. Transforming the technologies and systems that move people and goods around the world is an urgent imperative.<\/span><\/p>\n

Now, in little more than a generation, we must radically change a sector that almost exclusively depends on a single energy source\u2014petroleum\u2014operating on infrastructure that represents trillions of dollars of investment over decades.<\/span> Governments around the globe\u2014at every level\u2014must implement ambitious policies that will accelerate the transition to clean transportation technologies and systems. OUR IMPACT<\/h3>\n

We have less than 15 years to cut global CO2<\/sub> emissions in half, and 30 years to get to net zero if we want any chance of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.<\/strong> As we work toward that mission, we envision a future where leaders around the globe use the ICCT\u2019s expert research and technical support to develop ambitious, coordinated policies to eliminate air and climate pollution from transportation, consistent with limiting warming to well-below 2\u00b0C and pursuing efforts to limit warming to 1.5\u00b0C<\/a> this century.<\/p>\n

Over the past two years, the ICCT closely engaged with Australia\u2019s Ministry of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts (MITRDCA), the Electric Vehicle Council, and other stakeholders to support the development and finalization of the policy. Our research into heavy-duty vehicle emissions in the US and EU revealed significant discrepancies in real-world nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions due to policy design flaws, prompting regulatory changes, notably in California, with expectations of similar federal actions in throughout the US\u200b. The International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) is an independent nonprofit research organization founded to provide exceptional, objective, timely research and technical and scientific analysis to environmental regulators. <\/span><\/p>\n
